Postpartum pelvic floor therapy FAQ
When should I start pelvic floor therapy postpartum?
You should have your first pelvic floor PT visit within the first 2-3 weeks postpartum. This allows us to take advantage of the healing and reorganizing your body is going through so that you heal recover faster. We are happy to see you sooner than this as well, but we know that the first few weeks with a new baby can be a whirlwind.
Do I need an internal exam?
An internal exam is typically offered once you are 6 weeks postpartum, but it is not necessary to treat you successfully.
Can pelvic floor therapy help prolapse?
Yes, pelvic floor therapy is extremely beneficial for treating the symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse. There are a lot of different treatment interventions physical therapists use to help women with their prolapse symptoms. At our clinic, we have found a lot of success with hands-on manual therapy and targeted exercises that go beyond Kegel exercises.
